When it was T. Douglas Gurley it operated much better. This office is close to where I live in Midtown and had a strong LGBTQ focus. Since AHF has taken over I have had multiple appointments cancelled without being called to reschedule. Doctors and medical staff have been turning over, and they are changing you current state of medical care and medicine and referring you to all sorts of other individuals to continue. At this point I am looking to switch providers due to the multiple hoops I am having to jump through and the inconsistency of the practice. Elysium may be a farther commute, but it may be worth it for a better experience and patient care.

Note: My experience was not all negative. The AHF support staff was friendly and engaging. The location was very accessible, the office was nice, parking was plentiful, and the location was convenient to the beltline and other places. My review is not based on the wonderful AHF Staff or any personal ill will for Duane. This was just my experience and recommendation.Unfortunately, I had a disheartening and very non-affirming visit with Duane Moody, NP. I came in seeking testosterone therapy, no further steps were given toward this goal, however, I was referred to a gynecologist and advised to seek a therapist. Duane did not understand my gender identity/how I wanted to express my gender identity and insinuated that maybe I was confused or had gender identity issues. When I stated I was not, Duane did clarify that they were confused or unsure about the help I needed and would prefer I see a therapist before moving on. I am fine with a therapist as I have one, however, it was as if I had to prove to Duane that I was sure of what I wanted to move forward. I was told by Duane that the changes that I felt aligned with my body and my identity as a woman were not what hormone therapy was for. Ironically, I consulted other clinics and this was never an issue. In fact, I gave up an appointment at another clinic where they completely understood what I was seeking. I was very excited for this appointment at AHF Healthcare Center - Auburn Ave as its something Ive been wanting for a while and I thought the AHF Auburn Ave would be a safe space. This was not the case. Sadly, I did not receive any further assistance with testosterone therapy, yet I was offered a referral to a gynecologist. I do not recommend this location for gender-affirming care, however, due to limited places to receive this type of care, if you do need to go here, I wish you a better experience.

I gotta echo everyone else here. This place was amazing when it was T Douglas Gurley MD, but it went downhill horrifically since then. I was paired with a new doctor who didnt want to prescribe me Progesterone (an extremely common form of HRT that just about every other transfem person I know is on) because they said its too dangerous (what the hell). When I asked for my medical records, they sent me links to a private, account-protected folder; when I asked for them to resend the files another way, they emailed me back I have send you PDF. When I pointed out they didnt, they sent me an angry message in all caps. Its such a tragedy what happened to this place, and a lesson in not letting giant, mismanaged organizations take over small providers.

The staff originally did not want to enter my list of prescriptions from my previous provider that I brought over after my initial appointment. I called to get my prescriptions filled only to keep getting notices about the one prescription I did have from ahfs refilled which was not the one I needed. Nobody could understand that my other numerous meds were what I needed filled. I had to explain this to several staff members. The was so much delay and time getting my meds filled even after I got my own records from my previous provider. I spent weeks going back and forth with ahfr. All this time without my medicines. Then I was told all but two could be approved. Then I was told the dosage was wrong as if I did it. Then I was called by someone basically shaming me and stressing how large my order was and before they fill the order that was I definitely coming to pick them up. Mind you this was at 8 am in the morning. Then after the meds were filled, I was called everyday to come pick them up! So I finally pick them up and two meds were forgotten. Absolutely horrible experience since becoming a patient.

My old doctor through this office was really wonderful, but after he left I got switched over to someone... Charitably put, less than stellar. I was so distracted by the back-to-back medical misinformation being condescendingly doled out—common misconceptions about conditions and treatments that you get cleared up by knowledgeable doctors in your first few visits—that I held off on bringing up the rest of the concerns I had come there for. Regardless of what the rest of the staff is like, its probably worth avoiding it based on the quality of their providers.

Since AHF took over the practice this place has ceased to provide any form of anything that could be called care because they do not. They dont answer messages, return calls or even pick up the phone half the time. There is ZERO bedside manner or compassionate care at this place. Feels like they are an assembly line practice just there to collect money. Dr. Gurley built an amazing practice just to have it all wiped away in months. The absolute worst healthcare provider I have ever experienced. Everyone there must hate their job because there is nothing but rudeness and attitude from top to bottom. They advertise as being LGBTQIA+ friendly... they are not friendly to anyone.

This place was fantastic and provided the services their website still claims to provide when it was privately held. Now that it has sold and rebranded as AHF it is beyond terrible. I’ve never seen a business I previously enjoyed spiral so fast. I’m not blaming a single person, but our experience has been a result of clear mismanagement by the new ownership structure. Avoid at all costs.

Terrible, only good as an STD/HIV/PReP clinic.Went from a decent place to the worst office I’ve ever had to deal with. Things have gone down hill. Multiple cancellations with no explanation on appointments, can only be rebooked months away.No response to messages left, no response to written communications. They don’t actually try to be anything more than a 2nd rate STD clinic. Horrifically incompetent staff. They won’t respond to prior auth requests, they don’t respond to Rx issues. Horrible horrible horrible. If all you need is basic screening then fine but otherwise… no.

This place has been wonderful. My wife and I have been going here for about 4 years now and have never had a bad experience. The staff are all attentive, considerate, and friendly. Duane, especially, is wonderful at his job. I couldnt recommend this place more. 10 out of 10.
