Planned Parenthood - Shrewsbury Center

I do not suggest this office. If I had it to do over again I would have scheduled with a regular gynecologist in my area - private practice as it would have been much CHEAPER and no doubt a better care visit. I made an appointment for the Shrewsbury office which was canceled so I had to reschedule. When I called I asked how much it would be because I have no insurance and need to be sure I could afford the fee. I was told the cost would not be more than $200. Just a check up. When i arrived for my appointment I was told the price could be higher depending on the services required. I mentioned the $200 I was quoted on the phone and was told it might be more and wasn’t happy. I had needed an annual exam and pap as well as some answers about any concerns. I had even refused a breast exam due to the rising cost of said appointment already so only got half an exam truly. The bill was over $300+!! I had gone there because I can’t afford insurance, only got half an exam then come to find out there was a fee for a pregnancy test in there!! I’m over 50 and did NOT ask for a pregnancy test? WTH!? I do not recommend anyone visit this office for routine care especially if you do not have insurance. I suggest a regular gyn office and will remind myself next time I need to schedule a visit.

Update:CALL AHEAD. Website does not state this and clearly doesn’t allow you to book appointments but they may turn you away on arrival. I expressed frustration over this when they turned me away as I’ve been a donor and supporter of Planned Parenthood over the years. When I gave some pushback I was met with a more friendly and polite staff member who said they’d be able to see me but may take a while. I didn’t wait all that long and I felt the process was easy. None of the back room staff seemed stressed at all. As someone who’s worked at a doctors office, I totally understand being shortstaffed. It’s not their fault. However, the website just needs to be updated with correct information so that people aren’t driving very far for nothing.

I was amazed. This place if wonderful ! I had what I thought myight be a yeast infection and was uncomfortable and my OBGYN said they couldn’t see me for 3WEEKS! and same with 8 other places I called two week waits. No one even cared I was in pain they were like idk good luck try an ER or urgent center, sorry bye. And I was hesitant to call planned parenthood because the last time I had to go was maybe 15 years ago and it was ruff. They said come in and wait and they would try to see me. It only took about 45 minutes It is so clean and nice inside everything is brand new ! There was snacks. And tv. The staff was lovely Nadira Adams was quick reassuring and lovely. They got me all the help I needed where as if this place wasn’t here no one would have helped me. AT ALL FOR WEEKS. crazy. Thank god for this place

Everyone at the clinic was very kind and accommodating, from the staff to the volunteers. They all were trying their best to make an experience that can be very emotionally taxing as calming as possible. A true judgement free zone. 5 stars across all boards 🫶🏼

They go above and beyond to make u feel comfortable they are very knowledgeable, understanding and compassionate all around awesome people I will 100 perfect recommended this place to anyone VERY CARING STAFF!!!!!! My experience was horrible, I was moved to many different locations, rescheduled many families times for me to endure a very nasty painful experience I’ve ever dealt with in my life. They do not provide comforting pain medicine for serious medical performance! Very traumatic pain and experience!!

I came for a procedure and i was waiting for the doctor in the room for over an hour, come to find out no one knew i was even in the room. The nurses alone had zero hospitality which made me even more uncomfortable than I already was. Doctor was great, also pregnant which made the situation more comfortable and she guided me through everything. I dont understand how planned parenthood is no longer a safe place for women, why are there people working in an environment that are clearly so miserable it gets projected onto the patient who is most likely scared and alone. This should be considered a place where woman can feel comfortable during uncomfortable times (on a budget) and now were left with no choice but to go somewhere else and spend 5x the amount of money to get proper service and hospitality from nurses/doctors with the same degrees. The front desk is even worse as far as customer service and hospitality, every time I call I have to hope theyre in a good mood. Absurd.

This place can be good or bad, depends of how well the nurses feels! Today I came for a walk-in std ( because I can’t make an appointment online is not allowed only walk-in ) I got here at 11am and the front desk was about to take me but the nurse said they are done for the whole day that I have to call at 8am to see if the can take me.I would def call if that information were on the website if that is the procedure to follow.Sometimes it’s good. But the 4 time I have been here 3 I have some treat like this

Overall ok experience but people at the front desk are miserable and this is not the place you should be working at if you are a unfriendly/miserable individual.. Women come here for personal issues and should not feel uncomfortable by the presence of other women at a front desk….The least you can do is be a friendly person.. received an attitude from one of the ladies multiple times. The wait was also ridiculous as well. They will tell you to wait in the room but then probably forget you are even there! Do better...

Walked in at 3:45, told they don’t take walk ins after 3:30 when they close at 4:30. Three people at the front desk sitting around doing absolutely nothing but twiddling their fingers on their phones, no patients in the waiting room, practitioner with dark hair had an attitude like she hasn’t been laid in 12 years and was as helpful as a soggy diaper. Trash bag clinic. If you’re going to enforce “policies” have them available to the public on your site. Lots of one star reviews complaining about the miserable people that work here, imagine if you had to work in a real hospital like I do where you don’t get to sit on your butt all day.

I had the best experience here, the place extremely clean and every nurse and doctor and volunteer was extremely nice and made me feel as comfortable as possible :)

One, since the place has been updated everything has gone downhill. I loved this location due to how close it was from my home, and it made me feel comfortable going there rather than any other place. Now it’s hard to even get in because it seems like they only care about everything else than general and std testing and treatment; which seems like neglect to the Monmouth County residents. Two, they have “general or std testing” on their website (that I think is just for show) but if you press NO that you don’t need to see a clinician for exam it says you DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS. Basically saying we can’t help you. However even if you click YES, the website still tells you that there’s no availability DESPITE it being a whole new year— let alone the first two months of the new year. Three, they don’t list that you should walk-in for the testing so calling to make an appointment just to be told that they cannot schedule you cause it’s considered a “walk-in” kind of visit is outrageous. Where is the care and hospitality that is supposed to come from the medical field? And on top of walking in, they will tell you that they CAN NOT take you due to “low staff”, “booked for the day”, or “not taking walk-ins”. So if you CANT book an appointment online OR do a walk-in why list it? you’re falsely leading everyone with misleading information into thinking they can get help from a place that should down right offer the help but cannot. Four, even upon clicking something else in the list such as birth control or abortion pill, it still says they cannot schedule; but how is it that when I walk into the building the patient waiting room is full? To me it seems like a bunch of new staff running the place in a very distasteful, dense, dull, imbecilic, and ignorant way. Lastly I will end with Five, if the proper updates are not met to provide the local community and Monmouth county residents with the proper care and treatment I will be back to list all the local sources and facilities where people can get what they need; starting with the Asbury Park VNACJ that offers numerous things along with taking walk-ins, scheduling appointments, helping those with and without insurance, prep and HIV prevention, to even setting you up with a primary doctor or psychiatrist! It seems like Planned Parenthood needs to lose business in order to know how to gain business.

I can not say enough wonderful things about this place. From the staff to the doctors to the beautiful souls that volunteer to make your visit comfortable, my appreciation is enormous! This place takes care of women in a way that I have never experienced anywhere else. Thank you for keeping my safety, comfort and mental well being a complete priority. You are angels and I am forever grateful.

Went for a regular walk-in test got turned away because the office was “short-staffed” considering there were only 2 people in the waiting area and considering I went well before closing hour, I could of been accommodated but these people clearly don’t feel like working

I went for an abortion and they made me feel very comfortable, they gave me utmost care. They gave me tissues when i needed for break down and they explained the procedure step by step and allowed me to ask many questions with patience. I was scared so a volunteered had a deep heart to heart conversation about how my decision was right because it was for me and my happiness. I recommend anyone to this site, theyre amazing. Thank you planned parenthood.❤

I live close to this location and intended to pass it up and drive all the way to Elizabeth because the reviews are so bad. The Elizabeth location was booked for walk ins so I decided to come here expecting the worst. I dont know why the reviews are so bad because my experience was a great one. The staff at the front desk were welcoming and nice. The nurse that performed my tests was professional, engaging and nice. There was even a staff member that came by and let those of us waiting in the waiting room know that there were snacks and refreshments in one of the rooms. It really seems as though the negative reviews are for another location. I would definitely recommend this PP.

The staff is AMAZING! This is a tough thing to go through and they made my experience such a breeze. Doctor Elliot was wonderful. Mariah made me feel so comfortable and Jazz the director really was so thorough and gave me all the information I needed made me feel so welcomed and runs this clinc like a positive wonderful experience I cant thank then enough for everything they did!

This place was phenomenal from the front desk receptionist to everyone in the back they were very friendly and compassionate. The overall wait from start to finish was 3 hours but i didnt mind the wait.The place was exceptionally clean and and put together. They even gave me a goodie bag to take home with tea bags, socks etc. I wasnt gonna go based on the horrible reviews but Im glad I did because I was treated very well

Very rude front desk/receptionists. The person who schedules appointments will make you feel stupid and does not want to explain your questions. She made me feel embarrassed over the phone when trying to schedule and figure out my options. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

I went here initially to check the facility and to see what kind of services they can provide me. (This was the 2nd facility I checked, I was impressed by the professionalism of their staff members) The receptionists are direct and professional. Her tone of voice is emphatic, which is a good sign. The rooms are clean, and the hand sanitizers are full. Each staff is very informative and caring, the nurses and doctors are very kind. They show that they care about the patients truly. There are volunteers to help each patient with their needs. Volunteers and staff members are also great for support, especially during emotional moments in a patients life. Their recovery room and the waiting room have snacks for patients who need them. The nurse was pleasant and helpful. I appreciate their kindness and compassion. Thats a big plus. Thank you

Brushed off by the white female doctor and later was rushed to the hospital because she didn’t do her due diligence nor listen to me when I tried to tell her I felt something was off and we both seen something on the sonogram screen.Tried to file a complaint and they never returned my call.She seemed so bothered by having to see patients it seems. Pick another profession or leave the negative energy at the door when you get to work.Front desk and nurse were friendly and helpful but that does not negate the poor service by the doctor.Would not recommend this location

I ju want to say I highly recommend this location they are so wonderful!!!!I want to emphasize that ALL the staff is amazing from the moment I walked in and checked in to the nurses, Doctor and even down to the volunteers my experience was beyond amazing I wish I could give it 10 stars. I visited this planned parenthood and the staff was absolutely rude. The lady that was taking care of me “jazlyn” or “jazmine” was speaking to me with not only a nasty attitude but with pointing fingers in my face as well. Definitely was a waste of my time and the staff did not try to help me one bit. Place is very ghetto and clearly not well managed. I’m disappointed with this Planned parenthood location. Don’t waste your time.

Scheduled an appointment two weeks in advance, took time off work to make the appointment. then received a text message from an unknown number saying i needed to reschedule with a broken link so no ability to do this. I called to confirm my appointment and it was canceled because no doctors were coming in. They rescheduled me for a full two weeks later and no attempt to help me find a sooner date at any other clinics. This is a time sensitive issue i was having an appointment for. Very disappointed.

I have been really happy with this location. All of the staff have been very informative, friendly, and helpful. I came in knowing nothing about what I needed, and I left feeling well cared for. The only recommendation I have is for PP to provide more education/training on transgender patients for their staff.

Firstly, I have been a HUGE advocate for Planned Parenthood and ALL services they provide. Im glad a place like this exists for women to receive decent health care at a reasonable cost. I am however, extremely dissatisfied with most recent visits. I visited for an appointment a few months ago, and the whole process took three hours, mostly waiting to seen. I understand they are busy, but three hours? It was also way more expensive, being that I checked with my other gyno after the fact, only to find out that the same exam would have cost me half out of pocket was PP charged me.I went in recently to refill my birth control pills. Turns out that they were out of my particular brand, were expecting a shipment, but had NO idea when it would be in. Really? How is that even possible OR acceptable? They were not helpful, only in saying that I could pick it up at a different location, the closest being Freehold, which is of course closed today. Why not order it for me from a different location? Or check with a doctor to offer a different brand? OR how about NOT running out of important medication to begin with. Im on BC because of medical reasons, so its imperative that I take it regularly and to not miss a dose, even in the off week.This is completely unacceptable and Im extremely disappointed in an organization that I once had so much faith in.

First to begin I have never been in a more ghetto,unprofessional, medical facility. The head nurse was the nastiest,rudest, ghetto person I have ever incountered in my life. She was very unfriendly upon arrival, no greeting, and no info. She was rude to her staff and patients,even argued with another co-worker in the middle of the waiting room. Not only was her behavior unprofessional , it was uncomfortable, A feeling one should never have in a doctors office. Its sad because the doctor that attended me was very nice. But I will never set foot in that place. And to top it off we waited over 3 hours. The worst experience of my life......

Please if you can, go to another location. I understand PP is understaffed and under-resourced, but nevertheless this is frustrating.The initial gynecologist I saw was very kind and helpful, and I felt like I was being taken care of.. but the nurse on call that was there was not great at all. And following up with the office about your results is practically impossible. They claim they will call you and never do. Extremely, extremely unprofessional. If I had known it would be this terrible I would have gone somewhere else

They are frequently closed for no reason. Got here at 1:31pm today but they closed at 1:30pm for a meeting. The least they could do is update the website so people arent driving half an hour only to find a sign on the door. This is the third time Ive found it unexpectedly closed when I needed to pick up a prescription for birth control.Dont know what else to do since I dont have unlimited days off or gas money to keep checking back here. 😕 I dont think Ill be back simply because they do not actually provide service!

Aside from waiting a good hour and a half it was a decent place. Very convenient since my gyno has a 2 month wait for an appointment. Dont like how I have to tell them my yearly income which every time I have to calculate out. Very helpful and professional.

They need a new system or a larger facility. I came in for a check up and waited 2 HOURS and nothing happened. I made an appointment for a reason. Are they going to pay me for the hours lost at work? What is going on in there? This is the last time I try coming here.

I have nothing but good things to say about my experience here. It was a very emotional experience for me but all the doctors and nurses were super helpful and very kind. They helped me thru everything and made sure I was comfortable with everything they did.

Horrible Horrible horrible. Had an appointment and still had to wait 3 hours to be seen. Doctors were rude and very pushy. I knew the type of birth control that worked with me from my previous doctor (which I cant go to anymore bc of different insurance) and this doctor pressured me into the IUD. And basically wouldnt take no for an answer. Who does that? Also, I know and SHE should have known with my medical history that type of birth control wouldnt work for me. Wouldnt trust this place as far as I could throw them at this place. Bad news... save yourself money and your health, go somewhere else.

This place is absolutely amazing.The entire staff is so loving, caring, friendly and nonjudgmental.From the doctors, to the nurses, to the receptionist, to the volunteers, and the list goes on. Every person there is a kindhearted person.5 Stars!

Bad patient service, we arrived here a half hour before appointment, didnt get seen until two hours later. People who arrived later than my friend and I received attention long before us. How does that make sense?? When asked how much longer they thought it would be for my friend to come out, they said they didnt know and should expect to be here for another three hours.

My appointment was at 1045 am and Im still waiting in room at 201 pm. I was told four hrs at most for the wait but I know its going to be way longer then that. This is so crazy. Staff watching me is sweet and kind but this wait is so bad. Other woman have said they have been here longer than me. And they just left.

This place sucks I walked in 2 times 2 different Saturdays to get tested an both times I was there at 8:05 am an both times they told me they can’t take walk in’s because they are short staffed an both times there wasn’t a patient in there

This place was amazing! They make you feel so incredibly comfortable. The doctor was so extremely kind and supportive as was the nurse who i seriously would not have made it through without her support. Thank you guys!!!

Highly recommend not to go at this place. Had 11:30am waited till 7pm …Finally was free at 7pm .. other then receptionist whole staff is very nice .. still they need to be better with appointment timing.. 8hours of delay..

Place is a scam with pricing. They told us “up to $200” over the phone and then we were charged $300 and you have to do everything alone, you can’t bring your partner with you

The front desk staff was extremely rude and I just went in to ask a simple question. Just take the drive to a farther location. The environment is not kind or welcoming at all!!!! This location gives a bad name to Planned Parenthood.

Was in between doctors and needed some tests done here twice. Really efficient and great turn around time for the results!

Stupid office had the doctor leave bc of an emergency after waiting there an hr and half no one told me nothing , then sends me 25 more mins away to another clinic telling me i’d be first there and they never sent my info over and i never went as soon as i got there

The staff here had some of the kindest and most sincere people I’ve met in a clinic environment.

The doctor she does good work. But some of the nurses are really lacking proper knowledge.

I loved this place, everybody are very polite and attentive. Take very care of patients. Especially the attendant.

Not sure what the point of an appointment is if they don’t see you till an hour after your appointment.

I came to check if I was pregnant and the tests were negative when I went to my pcp I found out I was pregnant. I would never suggest any of my friends to go there
