Dr. Sophocles is warm, caring and knowledgeable. She instantly made me feel at ease, and addressed every single question I had. Her office staff could not have been lovelier. An absolutely pleasure!

I scheduled a tele call with Dr. Sophocles and discussed HRT options. She was patient and listened to my concerns. She didn’t just prescribe anything without checking my levels which was important to me in making a lifelong commitment to HRT. She also requested to check my bone density before prescribing due to my family history of osteoporosis. Since my mom passed in 2020 I’m so glad we still have female doctors that are empathetic, knowledgeable and supportive in women’s health . I would recommend Dr. Sophocles to anyone who is seeking a menopause specialist.

I had an exceptional experience with Dr. Maria Sophocles. Her bedside manner is impeccable, making me feel comfortable and cared for from the moment I walked in. She takes the time to connect with her patients, even sharing jokes to lighten the mood. While the front desk could be a bit nicer, you cant have it all.Dr. Sophocles expertise and compassionate care more than make up for any minor shortcomings at the front desk. Ive seen some negative reviews regarding her approach to IUDs and the time she spends with patients. Regarding the IUD issue, Dr. Sophocles is absolutely right; not every woman who hasnt given birth is suitable for an IUD, and being put under anesthesia for such a procedure is indeed extreme. As for the time spent with patients, I find it reasonable. She has other patients to attend to, and its unfair to expect her to spend an excessive amount of time with each individual.Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Sophocles to anyone seeking a skilled and personable healthcare provider.

What a breathe of fresh air Dr. Sophocles and her practice is! I have been dealing with what I determined was perimenopause for quite a few years and have been dismissed constantly by a number of doctors including my former gynecologist. Not only did Dr. Sophocles agree that I am absolutely going through it, but she also acknowledged how my other health conditions (estrogen & progesterone positive breast cancer, dysautonomia, ehlers danlos, Sjögren’s syndrome) are making the experience even more challenging. I left my first appointment with Dr. Sophocles with a a prescription for a non-habit forming sleeping medication to reduce the at times debilitating insomnia I have been dealing with, plus a supplement that can help with that as well as a myriad of other issues related to perimenopause. In addition, Dr. Sophocles shared a wearable that will cool (or warm if I am cold) my wrist during times of hot flashes / night sweats and when I am feeling vasovagal syncope (faint) coming on which results in me sweating also. I am very grateful and am telling every female I know all about Dr. Sophocles and what a wonderful, reassuring experience I had. Thank you so much for not treating me like I am crazy or just stressed, Dr. Sophocles!!!

Best. Gynecologist. Ever. Its rare I leave a doctors office feeling more relaxed and confident about my health, but this first visit was a rare and welcome exception. Dr. Sophocles is a warm, understanding, conscientious human and medical professional who listens with an open mind and heart and communicates wonderfully about options and strategies for optimal gynecological health. She is clearly current with her knowledge (so many doctors are outdated) and has inspired my confidence. Everybody I interacted with in the office was fabulous too.

UPDATE - don’t use Maria. She kept asking for a review. Then when I gave only four stars???? She did not provide good service. The treatment I paid quite a lot of money for only lasted maybe four minutes?? She was pissed. She got even. STAY AWAY!!I waited close to an hour and a half to see the doctor. It would have been considerate of staff to inform patients who were waiting that the physician had a few emergencies and was running late. That being said, the physician led with that information and apologized for seeing me so late. If not for that, I would have given five stars as Doctor appears to be very knowledgeable in her field. She has a great bedside manner and her caring is evident. Would highly recommend.

Upon entering I was impressed by how clean the lobby was and how seamless the check-in procedure was even with covid restrictions. The early online check-in process was a breeze as well. The staff was very welcoming and helpful.Dr. Sophocles was extremely professional and attentive. Today, I waited 90 minutes to see the doctor. As a sufferer of infertility and endometriosis, I’ve never felt better understood by any provider other than Dr. Sophocles! My experiences with her across the board have been fantastic.

A lot of time was taken with me on my first visit, although there was so much to take in with regard to treatment options, which was the focus of todays visit. Wishing I took a little more time to think on each option before I started treatment but it is nice for those who want to dive right in to laser or other treatments. Next visit I hope to learn more about my condition and preventative care options, not just medication to address the symptoms I have.I would recommend Dr Maria Sophocles.

Dr. Sophocles is really knowledgeable and she is very patient and listens to all of my health concerns but when it’s comes appointment the wait time on Telehealth is too long. I have to wait over my time and it messes my schedule. It’s better to have a day free or off with no pending work when appointment is scheduled at this doctor’s office.

I first met Dr Sophocles as the daughter of a patient. My mother needed a hysterectomy, and I accompanied her to all her office visits. At the time, I remembered how patient she was with my Mom and how I felt she connected with us.Yesterday (four years later) I went as a patient. She was as I remembered: friendly, gentle, and willing to answer any questions I had, at length. She has some state-of-the-art equipment in her office. And her patient portal is the best I’ve ever used. I had the ability to schedule and change my appointment myself, although I could have called her office for help if I needed it. Going to the gynecologist was something I avoided for years because it was an unpleasant hassle, but I guess I’ll go for an annual checkup now.

It was a relief to consult with someone so expert in the field, so experienced, knowledgeable, respectful, and compassionate. This was my first appointment with Dr. Sophocles. The office is clean and comfortable. The staff are all friendly and considerate. The doctor spent ample time speaking with me and offered me good advise. Her exam was thorough and she explained how my test results would be relayed back to me in the days following the appointment.The only issue I had was the VERY lengthy waiting room wait time. My appointment was for 2:30PM, but I arrived by 2:20 to fill out forms. I wasn’t brought into the exam room until 3:20 and the doctor didn’t come in to see me until 3:40. The doctor did apologize for the lengthy wait and explained that she had 2 emergency appointments, that came in earlier, which occupied a lot of her time, and pushed her schedule very far behind. I suggested, in the future, they at least text or call patients giving us the opportunity to take our time arriving or change our appointments if needed be.

Excellent doctors, both Dr. Sophocles an Dr.Mathews. First time ever walking out of doctors office I have felt amazing about the personal touch, the warmth and comfort that was given by both the doctors. Theyare super experienced and have a busy schedule ahead of them but still gave me about an hour of their time not rushing to finish the conversation and go to their next patient. Totally took the time to explain the pros n cons of the surgery that I was looking to undergo with them. I will definitely recommend them over any OBGYN that I have ever been to in the last 20 years.

I highly recommend this office. I have used them as my Gyno for a couple years now. I have been dealing with some heavy menstrual cycles. I am 43 years old. My last Gyno I felt didn’t follow through and didn’t give me any options. I had a Pap smear with the NP at this practice and she called it exactly what was going on. I ended up, as she said I would, having to have polyps removed and a biopsy with Dr Sophocles. From start to finish with the staff, surgical coordinator,Anesthesiologist, to the Dr. everything was handled so professional and smoothly. I never once felt pushed into doing anything. I really appreciate that they laid out all of my next options. I am confidently looking forward to my next procedure to put all my heavy bleeding issues behind me. Thank you!

I find Dr. Sophocles care to be very good. She is caring, present and helpful when seeing you as a patient, however I find her office to be run very poorly. I have been to see her three times in two months. Two out of the three times I had to wait to be seen between 45- 90 minutes after my scheduled appointment. Now I understand emergencies happened in doctors offices all the time, but there seems to be a pattern her.(Over the years, this has happened just about every time I see her.) I would appreciate a call before I arrive saying the doctor is running late and maybe ask me if I would you like to reschedule or arrive later? I also find dealing with her business office VERY frustrating! I have been trying to reach someone in her business office for three month to help me fix a bill. I have left five messages and have never received a call back. I need to reevaluate if the good care I receive is worth all of this frustration.

Dr. Sophocles makes you feel very comfortable. While taking the time to listen and she work with you to find the best treatment for your personal concerns!I would highly recommend Dr. Sophocles!

Dr. Sophocles was very pleasant and answered all my questions. However, I had to wait for an entire hour before being seen for my 1pm appointment. It is possible that they were just very busy today (Im a new patient), but the staff did not comment on that. Maybe good to call ahead and find out which days are best before making a routine appointment.

I took a lot of time to research a new OB-Gyn and have been really happy I found Dr. Sophocles. She’s very knowledgeable and her beside manner is amazing. This is a busy practice but they still manage to be attentive to each patient while remaining efficient.

Maria aka Dr. Sophocles is definitely a 5 star doctor. I would give her 10 stars if it was an option. From the moment you meet her you can tell that she is knowledgeable and knows what she is talking about . What I appreciate about her is that she takes her time to explain things to you. She gives you a little overview of what she’s about to do and what to expect then as she is working she tells you exactly what’s going on and what’s happening in real time. She uses both medical terms and laymen’s terms to make sure that you understand exactly what’s happening. She also has a really positive happy personality. You can tell that her team loves working for her. I drive an hour out of town to visit this doctor because my Princeton graduate of a husband researched around and viewed ratings saying that she was the best and ultimately it was a great experience. Definitely worth the drive and out of pocket expense.

I have been through quite a few gynecologists. So when I moved to NJ, I really wanted one that would hear what I had to say and not just pass it off as part of getting older. I found her name on the NAMS website. She wasnt too close to where I live, but within a reasonable distance. I am so happy to have her as my doctor. She really listens to what you have you have to say. I feel very comfortable talking with her and her staff. They are all very knowledgeable. Options are discussed. I no longer dread that annual visit. I highly recommend Dr Sophocles and the other doctors.

This was my 3rd Mona Lisa treatment, the Dr is awesome, she really cares, she listens to what I have to say and answers all of my questions. I travel 3.5 hrs to get to Princeton and will continue to do so, bc I know Im getting the proper care!

This physician is very popular. I waited months for an appointment. The appointment went well. I was scheduled and paid for surgery at her office. I was told that the hospital would contact me. I never received a call from Dr Sophocles office or the hospital. After too many calls on hold to Dr Sophocles, I went to her office to get status information. The scheduler told me that Dr Sophocles had made a mistake and did not give her my paperwork. 2 days later I was given a date and received several confirmations and requests for medical information from Princeton Hospital. On the day of the surgery, I was told that Dr. Sophocles had cancelled the surgery. The office administrator said that I had requested a new date so she cancelled the surgery the day before it was scheduled. Another miscommunication. I mentioned that I was moving during that week of the surgery, but would.keep the appointment. I have serious concern about the management of this office.

My early morning appointment went very well. The treatment and care I received was extraordinary. Everyone in the office was pleasant and treated me well. Dr. Sophocles is very nice and made me feel very comfortable.

Would give 4 3/4 stars if available and ONLY because she was so busy I had to wait. She does spend time with each patient and for that Im grateful. She explains what is occurring Her PA is amazing! Glad I switched to her office for my care

The wait was long to see her - both in scheduling and in the waiting room . Not as bad as last time may be 30 min wait in comparison to about 75 min wait last time. She is very experienced so I needed her advise. But as she was talking, examining and consulting she was always eyeing the clock. Made me feel not comfortable.

If you can get past the office staff, whom are disorganized and at best confused, and at worst rude, Dr. Sophocles was caring and informed. It is hard to get good help, but the office experience is a big part of the whole experience.
