For me its been a couple of years plus, it started working very well until I started to get the feeling last summer that it was becoming quite necessary that I have a surgery that I didnt see all that necessary. Because I was not having any physical pain or discomfort at all..., so, with every other visit it was suggested that perhaps I should have the surgery. It started making me uncomfortable. I decided to go on and have the surgery and a real crisis in my family struck. My only child was diagnosed with cancer after having a major surgery less than 5 weeks before hes to be back in having another major surgery. At this point I didnt feel it was the right time for me to have a surgery when I am the one thats going to have to help take care of him and not knowing how long that may last. The closer it got to my surgery, the more I realized this was not the best time for my surgery. I didnt know what else to do... so, with no other choice, I canceled my surgery just for now, after I did, I felt that maybe they were upset because I didnt go on with the surgery. Finally I had no choice but to call for my check up. I went back, everything was ok, and I now have my regular appointment to return in 3 months and it all seems to be back on schedule as before. Hopefully, they wont bother me about the surgery until Im ready, Ill let them know an we can go no from there, I could appreciate that, I dont care to be pushed into things and then have other things come up that make it impossible for me to keep a set date and time for a surgery I dont really need to start with thats going to have me incompacified for a few weeks.Thats not doable when I am the only one that has to fill in. Sorry, but my does family come first... nothing personal. Overall, it is an excellent facility. Only one issue after out of all this time. Thats a pretty good record for sure. Yes, theyre very good at what they do too. LB🤙🏼

I was a loyal patient for over seven years. Things had been OK up until the past year or so. The communication across the board at all offices is abysmal and several of the front desk workers brushed me off and were rude when I was trying to get a hold of my doctor when I was experiencing intense pain following an imaging process where they ultimately found a cyst. I would bring concerns to my doctor and felt as though I was not being taken seriously. There is a general lack of respect among employees — front desk, doctors, nurses. I will not be returning. I had a couple of issues post-op and was experiencing symptoms that my doctor instructed me to call immediately if I had those specific symptoms. I had to call SEVERAL times just to get someone to answer. And when they did pick up, they were incredibly unprofessional and rude. I could say so much more about the weeks on weeks I would go without answers regarding certain health issues and how the lack of communication from WHII made things even worse. Please don’t go here. And DO NOT bring your daughters here.

Edit to add 9 months post op-- I still attend therapy to deal with what happened to me due to this office. I still have issues urinating which I was promised up and down wasnt even a possibility. I still do not trust a single doctor. I still sob and have psychogenic seizures when I have to see a doctor. My trust was shattered beyond belief and I beg you to stay away from this practice. Plus, I cant forget that I was promised there would be NO MEN in the room, only to find out from the OR notes there were there and ASSISTING. DO NOT trust these people. My issue was blamed on me being older-- in my 20s. Sure. Thats the reason for Poulos screw upI don’t even know where to begin. I told them from the beginning i had a history of SA, i had a history of trauma with certain procedures, and it just… went ignored. From the flat out lies to earn my trust to the complications that no one was around to help with or care about. The pain I am constantly in post-op. The stitch sticking out of my skin still. The time we called the on call service because I was in so much pain when I got home from surgery and they advised to just take ibuprofen. The worsened PTSD that my therapist cannot figure out how to help. There was zero communication from Dr. Poulos post-op. She knew I had so many fears, and she never followed up once after surgery, even when her 2 most important promises to me were shattered, I heard nothing from her. Even the promises she did keep that I was so grateful for, she didn’t tell me about, I had to read it in the surgical report. I was told to let them shoulder the burden of my fear and for the first time in my life, i put my trust in a doctor. I literally said I’m terrified of coming out of this experience with more trauma- and that is exactly what happened.

I chose the Womens Health Institute of Illinois (specifically Dr. Poulos-Elser) through my insurance website, because Id been having unusual pain issues and urological symptoms for months without knowing the cause. I was treated with the utmost care and kindness at every appointment, and given every possible ounce of agency when choosing from available treatment decisions. In the end, it turns out Dr. Poulos-Elser saved my life, as during my surgery she found a tumor that was threatening my health even more than the uterine fibroids, and she did not stitch me up without getting it checked out and removed. She is SO incredibly busy, but she cares about the health of each of her patients, and it shows. Im home now, I feel so much better, and for that I am grateful to the Womens Health Institute of Illinois.

Ive been seeing Dr. Poulos for 15 years and she has handled my complicated health history with kindness, precision and expertise. Ive had three surgeries with her, all of which were expertly performed and improved my health situations greatly. As someone who has suffered for many years with complex urologic and gynecological issues, finding a Physician who is a Specialty Surgeon while being kind and compassionate was nothing short of a miracle. I had seen other Specialists who did not want to touch my case. She is truly someone who is thorough, innately professional, and takes the time to review your entire case. Recently, she performed a total hysterectomy for me. It was a high-risk procedure and she ensured my safety throughout the entire process. I am happy to report that the surgery went beautifully and I am already reaping the benefits. Dr. Poulos has been a true Godsend. I highly recommend her and her staff.

Had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment. Mostly because of my work schedule. The lady who originally scheduled my appointment was amazing and super friendly. She let me know that I had to send in my paperwork early so that I didn’t have to come early to appointment (because I was going to do my appointment over my lunch break). Gave all insurance information over the phone. A few days before my appointment, I filled out all the paperwork and faxed it in. I did keep my fax confirmation. The day before, the team called to confirm my appointment. I confirmed and asked if they received my paperwork. The lady told me that she hasn’t checked the faxes yet, but if she did not receive it she would call me back. I did not hear back from her. Arrived to appointment about 10 minutes early and the lady at the front desk said I would need to be rescheduled since they didn’t have my paperwork. I told her I double checked yesterday and nobody called me back. I gave her my completed new patient paperwork and my confirmed fax confirmation. She said sorry we can’t see you or else we’ll run behind. I’m a regional manager in dental, so I know how important the paperwork is. This is why I made sure to send it, keep my confirmation, verify with them that they received it, and still arrived a little bit early to my appointment just to be sure that there were no issues. Now after waiting 2 weeks for my appointment, taking a half day, doing everything on my part, I still get rescheduled and need to take a half day again to be seen here. I NEVER leave reviews. But this is just super upsetting. Honestly, it was a mistake on their end. If you run behind that’s your own fault since this falls back on a mistake your staff made. You should make it right by the patient and see them. That’s what I would’ve told my staff to do and I would’ve apologized to the patient for taking a half day after waiting a few weeks for the appointment. The absolute worst.

Very disturbing!! Today I brought my mother,88yrs old, to see Dr Elser to the clinic. The staff at the front desk were kind. The assistant was kind. Dr Elser, on the other hand, was very short withMyself (pt daughter) and my poorMother who is hard of hearing! This is a sad situation. People please speak up to advocate for your loved ones. Dr Elser walks in and does not introduce herself. The first thing stated is “you are not taping this visit!” I taped a portion or my last visit with Dr Johnson as we needed to get correct information to another doctor! I was told at that time “we do not allow audio taping”. First of all the manner in which Dr Elser greeted us was short and nonprofessional. Throughout the exam, I asked questions about my moms UTI and the doctor was short, impatient. I finally asked her, “ are you having a bad day?” You are very short with us! She replied, no I am having a great day!” Unfortunately the situation was not like this. Example, I said my moms urine was very cloudy, and she replied “ this does not mean she has a UTI!” I realize this, I am a nurse. I informed her that I understood this. She answered me in a very condescending and short manner! She did not want or desire to answer any questions. After a bit, she asked my88 yr old mom what her goals are?” My mom did not understand and simply said, “I want to feel better!” I replied, my mother would like to know the cause of her UTIs. Another doctor had been treating her with antibiotics, unresolved, and she stated, “we don’t just hand out antibiotics like candy.”Very unprofessional! My mom just lost her husband of 70 Yrs, and I expressed this to her, so mom is Under alot of stress. No empathy demonstrated towards her, So sad. She gets up and says we have to do tests. Next the assistant comes in and wants me to sign a consent for cystoscope. I was never told she would be doing this or the side effects. Yet, I was told to sign a consent. Very poor care and direction. I asked to talk to the doctor and she came back in the office to explain the procedure. She was a bit kinder as I believe she knew I was upset! During the scope she directed my mom rudely to “put your head down” and “can you move your leg out?” My mom being HOH did not understand, so I had to redirect the instructions. She did not ask my mom to breathe slowly or give her any advice throughout. All in all, dr Elser was not caring, she was not compassionate to say the least. She did not have a good bedside manner at all. My poor Mom was confused and one could tell this. Dr Elser had not reviewed her medication profile or last cystoscope film when asked. Isn’t this called professional responsibility. She asked my mom, what meds do you take? I wanted to say, look at the darn chart but I held off. This has occurred on more than one occasion at your office and needs correction.Dr Elser never gave instructions on how to use vaginal suppository prescribed or urinalysis results taken from today. I feel very sad to have to write such a negative report, but truly I ask you, how do you want your loved ones to be treated?” Prior to leaving the office, Dr Elser did not say good luck, good bye, nothing. Just walked out. I am sorry, I won’t be coming back to your office! The arrogance is horrible from a couple Of these docs. Please, I ask you to be a strong advocate for those seeking care! It is time to speak up when you are mistreated! The poor, frail, vulnerable elder population has no voice. Speak up on their behalf please!

If I could give 10,000 stars I would. I have been a patient of Womens health institute of Illinois for 10 years. As other reviewers have stated Dr Poulos elser always goes out of her way to make sure all of my questions are answered. She wants to be sure that her and I are on the same page and I am comfortable. And she goes out of her way to care for her patients. Throughout my years as a patient at womens health institute of Illinois I am fortunate to have seen both surgeons. They both are so very thoughtful and caring. Their expertise with this specialty really shines through in every way. This surgery has changed my life in the absolute positive way. Review №42

As a caveat, my case was complex and the result of complications from a previous surgery performed elsewhere. That said, although Dr. Elser treated me when other doctors were unable to diagnose, her diagnosis was actually wrong and she lacked the humility to admit this. After my initial consultation, she decided I needed a hysterectomy but I didnt think that was the issue. It was weird because every staff member I encountered said the same thing. It was almost like they made commissions on hysterectomies. (thats a joke) Initially I agreed then changed my mind because my gut said it didnt feel like the solution and was glad that I did. I requested she order new imaging which she declined both pre and post op. I did eventually have surgery with her to remove what she thought was endometriosis but actually turned out to be a fatty tumor in the adipose tissue of my stomach, not inside the cavity. The resulting surgical scar is very long, about 8 inches which is surprising because it could have been done laproscopically. I was discharged same day without a prescription for pain meds and when I paged her later requesting something for pain she said it was too late to get them so I dealt with post op pain with only Tylenol. After surgery I still had the same symptoms which I expressed but my concerns were dismissed. Frustrated with my concerns she passed me off to physical therapy. When I visited the physical therapist, she suggested there was something wrong that required surgical attention. When I suggested this to Dr. Elsers staff, they were also dismissive and suggested that I just stick with physical therapy. Tired of throwing good time (and money) after bad and frustrated, I cancelled my follow ups and at a friends urging visited the Complex Womens Health Center at Northwestern. Dr. Chaudhauri immediately ordered additional CT scans and concluded that my uterus was fine after remarking about the length of the surgical scar. She said I had scar tissue from my previous surgery and needed abdominal muscle and gynecological repair in a joint procedure. As I said, my case was complex but that was why I visited Dr. Elser. I would have preferred she admit that she didnt know which she did not. After all of this - the incorrect diagnosis, the incorrect insistence that I receive a hysterectomy, the dismissiveness of my continuing symptoms, the discharge without pain meds, the massive surgical scar, the refusal to order images pre or post op, and the tens of thousands of dollars I was charged for these services, her office had the audacity to call me for $198 that my insurance neglected to pay. When I didnt return the calls, they automatically debited my account. Save yourself the trauma. If you are dealing with a complicated issue that needs anything other than a hysterectomy, head to Northwestern.Update: Had a second procedure at Northwestern with Dr. Chaudhauri and Dr. Ellis in plastic surgery. I actually had an ovarian cyst and my uterus is completely normal and I do not need a hysterectomy. She removed the cyst and told me if I wanted to try for a baby I can. The plastic surgeon removed lots of scar tissue from my abdomen which was most likely the cause of my issues. He also cleaned up the scar left by the procedure with Dr. Elser.
