Theyre great at getting you in if youre a current patient at a reasonable time. Always willing to fit within my schedule and great at helping out. Such a safe place to go for when you need it. Been coming here for a few years now and Ive enjoyed my experience with them.
I am a 50 year old woman who is more concerned about her health care then I am about wasting time with staff who cant do their jobs well. This place needs to start making better choices for staffing. I dont appreciate being hung up on because a staff member gets their feathers ruffled and doesnt know how to just put the phone on hold and transfer me to someone who can help, instead choosing to get aggressive confrontational and hang up on me, Cory left me having to call back yet again to try to be helped by someone else who may or may not pick up the phone. The staff at this office seems incapable of handling anything if it is not done on the computer or through the app my chart. They have almost no skills when it comes to talking to a patient on the phone or interacting without a computer between them and the patient. I am all for respecting genders but thats not my main reason to go to a doctors office. I go to the doctor for care. The ownership seems more concerned about marketing to lgbtq+ and it should be looking for competency. I chose to go to this office because I followed my primary care doctor. Dr AJ Eckert, who is wonderful and recently left. I have been going here for almost 3 to 4 years. In that time I have been belittled by the pharmacy staff for questioning the wrong injection supplies sent to me, (since rectified the staff member was let go or left), I have been rebilled multiple times for a bill that I paid not only once but twice, I have checks that have been forged and cashed, I have had my bank account overdraft because they dont know how to cash checks in a timely manner. I have had my medical chart screwed up because the nurse marked me anaphylactic shock and was more concerned about whether or not I knew a blood pressure cuff was going to squeeze my arm rather than doing their job correctly, so that I couldnt get my covid vaccination in a timely fashion. I cant even begin to describe how incompetent it seems the majority of the staff are at the Anchor Health Initiative Hamden office. I have tried to give them the benefits of doubt but this is really too much. I shouldnt have to go back recheck my charts and make sure the nurses did the job correctly. I shouldnt be treated aggressively and hung up on by an incapable person because of their lack of knowledge and personal barriers to dealing with the public. No wonder my blood pressure is always elevated when Im here, Im stressed trying to figure out how and what will be screwed up next. I dont have any more patience for this practice. I do not want or care for an email address to send complaints to, but an accessable manager that takes calls and has a system to improve their staff and the issues that seem to consistently happen here. Do better.
I’ve been a patient for two years but the clinic has gone down hill quite a bit in the last few months. There is one receptionist in particular that treats me terribly each time I call and has no idea how to do her job — just long, awkward pauses and then a confrontational attitude. I don’t even call half the time I need to entirely because I’m tired of poor treatment. I complained about this via email and never received a response. Sad to see Anchor become as disrespectful as any other clinic.
Nobody told me that my doctor had left the practice, nobody checked in on me to schedule new appointments, nobody helped me with my mental health crisis stemming from having this clinic neglect me for three years, and when i finally got the confidence to call and ask what was going on, they told me it wasnt their responsibility-- even though even the worst doctors ive had outside of here have had the courtesy to check in and see if i needed more appointments. the ada also requires this by law, as some people (myself included) have disabilities requiring this sort of help. also was tone policed and hung up on during the call for crying. i can see that anchor health has responded to others who left unfavorable reviews, so please, dont respond. its the least you can do.glad im at a new provider now. hartford healthcare updates appointments for me... like the law requires.
I love anchor health. They never fail to make time for me and my girlfriend whenever we need assistance. Everyone is friendly, staff responds back quickly to any messages left. It’s a great place.
Anchor Health is the place to go for the LGBTIA+ community in New Haven County! Excellent care. Wonderful staff.
I actually enjoy going to the doctor now that I feel comfortable. All the staff Ive met is friendly and patient. Most importantly, they respect my identity.
I appreciate having queer healthcare providers so close by! Grateful to the team for their care.
I love anchor healthcare. The team is very professional and the Dr. Canari is the best.
I never felt comfortable at a doctors office until I came here. The office is clean, the staff are all highly respectful, motivated, and are very affirming of all sexualities and gender identities. I had never experienced a medical environment like this before, and it has made doctors visits so much more comfortable. I would rate higher if I could, and I will absolutely be coming back.
I had the best experience with Dr. Canary and Anchor health. I have never felt so welcomed and accommodated at a doctor’s office before. Everyone from the front desk to the nurses were so amazing. I will never go anywhere else.
Anchor health is one of the best doctors I’ve ever been to. All of the staff are extremely kind and welcoming. I was bounced around by other doctors for years because no one listened to me or believed me. After seeing Dr Canarie and Sharon we had a plan made and put into action, the staff of anchor health actually care and work hard to help. Which is more than I can say for the past 4 years of medical care. I highly recommend everyone at Anchor Health
They listen to me and my concerns and they help work with me to figure out the best treatment options that work with my goals of care :-)
I’ve been a patient of Dr. Eckert for years, and I couldn’t ask for a more attentive, understanding, knowledgeable, and caring provider. I’ve never been someone who looks forward to doctor’s appointments, but Anchor Health has truly changed that for me. From the moment I buzz in, I know that I’m in good hands. This team truly practices patient centered care. I’m grateful to have a team that takes the time to listen to and address my concerns, and documents appointments with detailed notes that I can refer back to if I need to. I truly appreciate everything these folks have done for me as a patient, and for the queer and trans community in CT.
Do not go here. My partner had booked an appointment that they were never told was cancelled, had blood work lost, appointments scheduled on the wrong date without their knowledge, and been charged for treatment without actually receiving it and told that the charges had been taken care of. They often don’t pick up the phone. A mutual friend of ours had similar experiences.
Dr. Sharon is so kind an attentive when I go in for yearly visits. Such a thorough and professional environment with none of the usual anxiety associated with regular doctor visits. Totally judgment free and understanding. I don’t dread coming here! Which is so important in getting you there to get the care you need. All the staff are so friendly. Thank you everyone for making my visit seamless and helpful. 💖
Professional staff whom always listen to your needs, while being kind and respectful. Highly recommend!
I cannot say enough about how wonderful everyone in the office is especially Patti. and Chris. Even the desk staff, everyone is so warm welcoming and caring. Who’d have thunk I’d ever rave about going to the doctor. Annual physicals are personalized and thorough. On top of it all everyone is so interesting and folks I really care about. I’ve told countless friends and they’ve always lamented how they wanted professionals like that. I’m excited to have found this office group and so excited that many of my friends have joined. It may take some time to establish an initial appointment but I swear to you they’re worth it. Thanks and everyone be safe!
Worst office ever I wont even dignify it with Drs in front because Joseph Canary is the worst one Ive ever had. So out of touch with reality when referring patients to outside services. Every blood draw done in over 2 years has been done wrong right up to most recent this past week. Now add the fact my other doctors are assisting me and have brought up serious medical concerns they witnessed with same results Joseph sees but Anchor Health has done nothing or taken any kind of preventive measures. Now today I call and asked for my Dr and twice a nurse calls back. When Will was called out on all these concerns he hung up on me? It took me 14 minutes on hold afterwords to get grievance department info.. Im in other groups and these and similar issues are always brought up. Needless to say I will be seeking other Dr services definitely not a clinic these folks should be ashamed. Lets be real even APNH has heard and confirms their terrible services.
Incredible staff, they provide care with the utmost respect and kindness and they deserve the world. I would not have the slightest doubt in naming them the best location for gender related care in Connecticut. 100% reccomend them to anyone questioning or seeking gender related care. They have absolutely changed my life for the better.
I was a rather sickly child, and Ive been to many many doctors in my life, so I speak from experience when I say that Anchor Health is the best office I have ever been to. I went in expecting just a specialist for my hormones, but I left with a new go-to general practitioner who I felt genuinely cared about my health and comfort. I tell everyone I know and love to go here, and as long as they are practicing they will have a loyal patient in me.
Similar to what another person said, except I had a good start with this place. But after a while it got to a point where I’d go in for my appointment, tell them my problems, and I’d have to wait for my doctor to finish their google search on what was wrong with me. How many times I have come to this office just to get an answer from google. I was also once scheduled to get orthostatic vitals taken I got there at the scheduled time, waited about a half hour before deciding to ask why I was still sitting there waiting. Waited another HOUR just to get vitals taken. Asked for a letter to be written, and the letter was for a completely other thing. I just don’t know what it’s going to take to be listened to. Or to have my healthcare taken seriously. I just wish I could be taken Seriously and it just doesn’t seem like that’s something this clinic is capable of.
Here for primary care and HRT. Had my first visit recently and was absolutely stunned with what a kind and through level of care I received. My concerns were listened to and all my questions were answered clearly. I very strongly reccomend this practice for LGBT folks for both primary care and transition related care. Also they have a pretty wide variety of condoms available to take if you need condoms so thats nice >_>
I am in awe of this office. I have never been comfortable in a doctors office, I’ve always hated going. That doesn’t apply to this office, I am excited to go in every single time I have an appointment. I go for HRT and everyone in this office are absolutely wonderful, and some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. Best doctors office I’ve ever been to by far, and is doing such wonderful things for the LGBTQ+ community. Absolutely love it here.
I have been with some of the staff from here for almost 4 years and since they were located in New Haven. I absolutely LOVE the staff(especially Patricia lol). It’s an hour drive from my house but there’s nothing else as close & frankly probably no one I feel more comfortable with. They’re very pleasant & understanding people. They get me right in and out and work with whatever issues you have. One time they lowered a payment for me because I didn’t have insurance at the time. HIGHLY recommend this facility!
Had some hiccups getting in (a tornado, too!) but once I was there, they made me feel more comfortable than Ive ever felt in a doctors office. Really friendly, kind, and totally professional. I would highly recommend for a place you can be heard and well taken care of.
I would highly recommend this facility for trans health care.Ive been pursuing treatment here for about 13 months as of this writing, and for the duration of that time I have been extremely pleased with the experience. Everyone working here with whom Ive had the pleasure of interacting has been immediately friendly, welcoming, and respectful. Im always legitimately happy to visit this office; even when I enter buzzing with anxious questions about my treatment, I consistently leave feeling energized, hopeful, and valid - in part because those questions are consistently answered patiently, thoroughly, and calmly by the knowledgeable care providers. At no point have I felt condescended to, nor have there been instances of gatekeeping - in fact, this clinic operated under informed consent and, to my knowledge, still does, which allows the confident to begin treatment almost as soon as they can make an appointment. For people with debilitating dysphoria, this is a literal life-saver.All in all, I consider myself blessed to have been referred here.
This was the best experience I have ever had dealing with a medical visit! The facility was very modern and SUPER queer, I felt very safe with the staff, and the APRN was knowledgeable about both my trans healthcare needs and my chronic health conditions. My blood was drawn ON SITE, at the time of visit no less! No more visits to Quest disrupting my mornings!I will recommend this office to all my LGBTQIA+ friends!
I couldn’t be more happier with placement of care than I get now. They’re so level headed and patient with their PTs it’s comforting. Reia is a phenomenal Dr and Joe was really detailed with diagnosis and solving these issues. I highly recommend anyone looking for a PCP !!
This place is NOT trans friendly. They use patients’ dead names and don’t update, even after contacting multiple times. Haven’t had issues at other offices and get more respect in my interactions in other (not lgbt specific) offices. Thought this would be a safe space but ended up being the worst experience I’ve had with a doctors office. Wish I never came here.
Amazing. No practice is perfect, but this one is striving to be for queer and gender affirming care.
I am so happy that we were referred to Anchor Health in Hamden Ct! Their new office is beautiful and easy to find . My 16 year old transgender son needed a place where he could feel welcome and accepted . From the time we walked in, to the time we left , the staff and doctors were friendly and informative! As a mother of a trans child , I worry so much . But Patricia at Anchor Health has been a Godsend to Calvin and me ! This medical clinic is dedicated to the lgbt community and youth and thank you for all that you do everyday ❤️
At Anchor Health, patients are treated with kindness and respect by extremely knowledgable physicians, APRNs, nurses and their administrative team. They respond promptly to my calls, always follow up when they say they will and make it easy to get labs and prescriptions with their in-house blood draws and pharmacy. My refills are mailed to my home which is so convenient!! I definitely recommend this practice to anyone - especially those who are LGBTQ+
Was recommended to come here after a new diagnosis. Requested info. Requested a new patient package twice. Never received. Called to speak with someone and was told I had to complete the package before they could talk to me. So I requested it a third time. No package them called and was told it was a 6 month wait minimum. Alfter waiting two months trying to set up an appt. Seems kind of long and unorganized
Anchor Health Initiative has a wonderful, fun staff that never fails to brighten my day. They are kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating! I would highly recommend Anchor Health to any and all LGBTQ+ folks looking for safe and welcoming medical practitioners who really care.
Dr. Demidont saved my life. I’m a trans*femme, 43, and before I came to Anchor Health I received deplorable healthcare from “trained in trans issues” doctors, aprn’s, and therapists. Unaware that I was living with the hormone levels of an 11-yr-old child, I began see Dr. Demidont in 2018. She saved me from a life of fatigue and depression by correctly assessing my hormone levels, informing me of my options, and respecting my choices for moving forward. My boundaries are respected. My trans* identity is centered and empowered by the entire staff (and I’m sure if I came in about a non-transition related issue they would center that as well). When I walk into Anchor Health my entire being relaxes. I leave happy and gratified. Concerning the one-star review, prescriptions are tricky in this state. It is my responsibility to follow up, inform, clarify, etc about my prescriptions. Any requests I have for Anchor Health are taken care of in 24-hours or less (sometimes within the hour). Dr. Demidont is the most capable health care provider I have ever encountered. She, and her amazing staff, are a treasure to the trans community in CT - I only wish their office culture, medical ethos, and high-caliber expertise were available to trans*people all over this country (and beyond). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me as I’d be happy to elaborate on my recommendation. Peace, Femmaeve MacQueen-Rose
Hands down the best! Always helpful & attentive. Everything I need. Staff is nice. New office is very nice. I feel very comfortable here. It feels good as a member of the LGBTQ community to feel normal and welcomed at a doctor’s office. I suggest this place if you are considering HRT.
Ive felt comfortable at Anchor Health since I first started going for HRT. All the doctors, nurses and staff are super amazing. Theyre all really funny, and make my experience there so much easier.
We are on vacation and had an issue and called on-call. The on call team was supportive and responsive and our provider, Dr. Canarie, went above and beyond on a Sunday to support us in resolving the issue. Thank you Anchor Health.
Anchor Health is a wonderful and welcoming place. I am a patient and would recommend these folks to anyone but especially to all of my LGBTQ friends who have struggled to find a provider who is both sensitive and knowledgeable!
Based on the drastic behavioral changes of a loved one getting services here I suspect the staff may not be great at getting people to self declare mental-health-history information. I am glad there is a one stop shop for gender services for folks in need but left this rating here because I have concerns about the mental health treatment my loved one appears to not be getting from this establishment along with their acclaimed affirmative gender services. I wish they would have agreed to go to the (!!equally gender affirmative!!) PTSD Center on Edwards Street to work on some complex trauma before or at-the-same-time-as they decided to seek cross-sex-hormones at Anchor. I wish staff would find a way to foster trust that those seeking gender-services may also seek mental health treatment. Without full-person treatment I worry people may fall through the cracks.
I cant recommend Anchor any higher. Theyve offered such competent care to me and my loved ones. No matter the situation, they remain calm and professional. Theyre very real about navigating the crazy world of healthcare and even go above and beyond to explain the ins and outs of insurance. Theyll always have my endorsement.
The best care I’ve ever received!
I am so lucky to have found such a caring professional practice. You don’t have to be LGBTQ to enjoy a inclusive group at Anchor Health. General Practitioners who are educated and provide the upmost care and consultative advice to calm any concerns. From the first inquiry phone call to annual physical with Patricia Alfieri APRN I felt like I was among friends. She is so easy to talk to and takes her time with you. I can appreciate a physician group who have the education and technology to answer any question I have and offers advice and direction to staying healthy. They take all major insurances but understand they can work with those who are underinsured. I’m so lucky I found them. I guarantee you will be too.
I first heard about Anchor through word of mouth and as soon as I went in for the first appointment I knew I was in excellent hands. This how a doctors office should be and its comforting to know that my health is held to the highest standard. Would give 10 stars if I could!
Super welcoming and thoughtful! Great experience!
I have to say that this office is amazing. I would personally like to thank Dr Joseph and Will for helping me in finding answers to my questions and getting me the help I need. I highly recommend. Thanks again Anchor Heath.
Cant give enough amazing reviews of Dr. AC Demidont and her amazing & loving staff. Wherever you gleam on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, not only will you be treated with respect and dignity, but youll feel right at home.
Patty Rocks! So does the guy with silver hair. And Tonya and Lane (totally butchered his name) they really educated me. Help my find out i had a thyroid problems started me on T a month ago, they answer my questions through MyChart. Im just happy to have a great PCP. They got the pronouns wrong once but no biggy. These people have such a great heart and are changing lives. Angels sent from heaven. Lane has the best hair too its full and flowing. I need to learn his tricks idk if it would work on dreadlocks. 😋😛😝🤗
The finest in LGBTQ+ healthcare. Everyone at AHI is super friendly and I was able to get started on HRT without a hitch. Was even able to walk out with my prescription. Highly recommend this place!
I have been seeing Dr Demidont for about 10 years now for my HIV health. When she moved her office to New Haven, I followed. When she opened her new practice in Hamden, I followed. She is smart, empathic and non judgmental. She is my life line. ❤️
My partner has had a nightmare dealing with this clinic. Incorrect prescriptions, nearly missed deadlines for filing simple paperwork, late prescription renewals. Save yourself the headache. The level of negligence and apathy about patients’ health is egregious.
Amazing staff and services. Wouldn’t go anywhere else.
Ive been seeing Patty Alfieri for over a year and she is so awesome. Anchor has really helped me get my health on track. I highly recommend checking them out.
This was the first medical experience i had as trans person were my doctor ask me how i feel instead of telling me. Thank you so much ANCHOR HEALTH INITIATIVE for giving TRANS PATIENTS ADVANCED KNOWLEDGEABLE CARE. I AM GREATEFUL.
I had a great first time experience at Anchor Health! I was in and out of my scheduled appointment in a timely fashion!
Only been there one time so far, but this place was Super clean, staff were super nice, and doctor was Great. Will give 5 stars when I have a few more visits in & see how things go ! Highly recommended !GREAT JOB !!!
Amazing staff. Personable. Brilliant. Empathetic. They go above and beyond. I am immensely grateful for Patty, Chris and the whole team.
These wonderful people saved and changed my life. Thanks to finally receiving proper and equal medical care I am pursuing my dreams, as my authentic self.
